DOS/VSE
Early enterprise work on IBM 4361 systems using COBOL and Assembler, with SAFE, DL/I and CICS establishing the foundation for mainframe system engineering.

Historical work included participation in the CARS system (Center of Advancing Banking Retail Services), an interbank ATM and savings-network initiative built in the VSE/SP environment with Assembler, COBOL and CICS. The work involved real-time transaction processing, account access, interbank connectivity and centralized settlement, and forms part of Tambition’s early banking-systems lineage.

The VSE lineage began with DOS/VSE on IBM 4361 and continued through VSE/SP. Banking applications including SAFE II, CIF and ATMP used COBOL and Assembler with CICS and DL/I across online and batch-processing workloads.

The operating-system progression continued from VSE/SP into MVS and OS/390, with increasing responsibility for production systems, CICS, DB2, migration and operational continuity.

Walter Luo is the Founder, CEO and Principal System Consultant of Tambition Technologies Group Inc. His experience supports the company’s technical direction and delivery approach. He founded Tambition in China in 2011, building the company around IBM mainframe technology, z/OS system programming, banking architecture and enterprise systems consulting. His professional experience includes IBM, BMC, Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE), Fujitsu and Bank of China, with a technical background spanning z/OS, banking systems, system consulting, production operations and modernization. In 2025, Walter re-established Tambition’s business development from Canada and continues to lead the company’s z/OS consulting, mainframe modernization, Enterprise AI and z/OS Agent Elephant direction.
